Printing Efficiently in Remote Desktop Environments

Overview

Several factors have been identified to increase printing speed when running Agvance in a remote desktop environment, especially when printing large batches of documents, such as Patronage Checks or Statements.

Setup

The following items all impact printing speed in a remote desktop environment.

Note: The greatest speed gains come from installing correct printer drivers on the server. If slowness persists, move to the next steps.

  1. Install each printer driver on the server, rather than relying on Easy Print. SSI testing has found this can reduce the time it takes to print a large job by 90%. Driver names must match exactly.
  2. Verify printers handling large jobs are in good repair and print at a reasonable number of pages per minute.
  3. Check that the application server has adequate RAM and CPU to handle normal daily activity. If the server is taxed, consider hardware upgrades, or print large jobs at times when fewer Agvance users are logged in.
  4. Test Internet connection speeds at locations reporting slow printing, and upgrade if possible.
