Using a USB to Serial Port Adapter

How should the Agvance Scale Interface or Grain Scale Interface be set up to communicate with the computer?

Setup

When running the Agvance Scale Interface or Grain Scale Interface, the best option for communication is to plug the serial cable for the scale directly into the computer. If a serial port is not available, a USB / serial adapter can be used. 

SSI has tested the following adapters.

• Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset)
• Sparkfun USB to RS232 Converter CAB-11304

The following adapter has been tested with Windows 7. It is not compatible with Windows 8, 8.1, or 10.

• Sewell InstaCOM USB to Serial Adapter

Note: Using other adapters could cause communication issues.
