Use the following options to determine if the company is posting inventory to the G/L or through merchandise inventory.
- Navigate to the Grain / Setup / Preferences / Posting tab. If the Do you post inventory to GL monthly? option is selected, the company is most likely posting inventory to the G/L in Accounting.
- If there are not separate inventory accounts for each inventory department, the company is most likely using merchandise inventory.
- At Accounting Reports / General Ledger / G/L Reports, run the Account Detail report for the Cost of Goods account for several fiscal months. Post inventory to G/L journal entries will have a Description of Post Inv to G/L. Merchandise inventory journal entries will have a Description of Grain Merchandise.
