Moisture Meter Calibration Version Identification Number

Overview

Since at least 2003, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44 has required that the calibration version identification number be printed along with the date, moisture results and the test weight per bushel on a printout provided to the producer.  Handbook 44 has been adopted by most (if not all) states and enforcement is the responsibility of state inspectors.

The calibration version identification number is normally entered into the moisture meter by the state inspector after they have successfully tested and approved a moisture meter for accuracy.   Moisture meters are required to be able to store this information.   Then the inspector places a seal on the machine to prevent tampering and to ensure the integrity of the machine.

Recently, several states have indicated they will be checking more closely to ensure that the calibration version identification number is included on the printout given to the producer (either a printout from the moisture meter directly or through the scale interface software by printing the number on the scale ticket).

Setup

Agvance Compliance

Agvance Grain Scale Interface has the ability to receive the calibration version identification number (along with the moisture results and test weight) from the GAC 2100, GAC 2500 and Steinlite SL95 moisture testers.  Each of these machines can be programmed to send the calibration version identification number in the string of information, along with moisture results and test weight.  (The user may need to refer to the moisture meter user manual for instructions).   The calibration version identification number will print on all scale ticket types in Agvance Scale Interface.

Regulations from Handbook 44 are included below for reference, along with the URL to the 2012 edition:
